Back in the Sewing Saddle

Yes, I'm back in the saddle again. I found myself hearing the voices of some of the artists from the Hair Raising show at SJICA. Most of them said, I collect things. My own detritus. Me too. In fact, I noticed yesterday, that not only do I take pleasure in collecting things. I take great pleasure in arranging things in little boxes, drawers or containers.

It gives me a sense of...order? It brought me back to years ago, when I was doing a lot of collage work. I'd spread out bunches of papers with color combos that worked well together, then I'd construct the collages from that perspective.

Here's a pile of paper treasures that Dorothy made.
Can't wait to get my needle and thread into this pile!

I always set parameters for myself. Always constraints. Within those constraints, I can create with infinite possibilities. Too daunting to have everything be open season. This is something I'm thinking about how to convey for my summer students...visual thinking.
