We attended the festive opening weekend for the Fiberart International April 12-14 in Pittsburgh. The members of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh did an amazing job of organizing this Triennial Exhibition of Contemporary Fiber Art. They mounted an impressive show of 93 artists from 14 countries, and Produced a gorgeous catalogue to boot. They wined, dined, shuttled and honored us in every way possible, so a huge thank you to this fine group.
This show will travel for 1-2 years. It's first stop will be the Mint Museum of Craft and Design.
This Mint link is a wonderful resource if you want to look up artists from the show, and all things Fiber.
We enjoyed a welcome cocktail party at the understated and elegant SOBA lounge, where the artists who arrived early were treated to a tasty meet and greet. At that event, I met Canadian artist, Angela Silver with whom I think I share some paper shredder DNA. Other artists I met who were wonderful and inspiring:
Joan Webster-Vore from Iowa
Kelly Tompson-UK
Tiziana Tateo-Italy
Lorraine Glessner-Philadelphia
Pam Cooper-New Jersey
Dorie Millerson-Canada
Alexandru Usineviciu-NYC
One of the jurors and a personal fave, Dorothy Caldwell gave the Keynote Address at the Fiberart Forum on Saturday. A very informative and heartfelt presentation.
